One week of fun waves in an amazing place: Tamarindo, on the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Friendly people, fantastic views and incredible weather... A very welcomed time away from the rushed life in the studio, and certainly a destination to be visited again. Thanks to Jeanette from Matos Surf Shop, in Playa Grande, for the photos at the end of the post - sometimes it's good to be on the other side of the lens!

After a very busy and intense 2010, I took a couple of weeks off - and offline - to sail away with the family on a cruise and recharge the batteries for the new year. I promised myself I would take a rest from the camera and just spend the days enjoying having nothing to do but read, appreciate the view and be together with my family. For the most part I succeeded, but I couldn't help taking a few photos here and there, mainly looking for simple images: shapes, colors and such. It felt really good to photograph without a purpose for a change, and here are a few of these pointless photos...

This is an amazing city... San Francisco has a character of its own, it feels absolutely unique and it must be a fun place to live. It's always a pleasure to be back there, even if only for a short visit!

gunter hierneis:

You are for sure an "artist of the LIGHT", since Germans call the art of photography "Lichtbildkunst".
Congratulations for the exceptional use of natural light to enhance all the emotions and feelings your eyes capture and your pictures express.
Do and show more!
Gunter

These photos are great, Ricardo! I haven't had a chance to follow your blog in a while and I just went through and looked at what I missed. One of my favorites in this batch is of the harbor with all the sailboats. Is that an HDR image? Hope all is well!

This place in Grand Cayman is called Stingray City, a tourist attraction with a ton of daily visitors from all the big ships that stop here, but even so it's still a fantastic place to visit. Swimming with these beauties is something very special, they are completely friendly and love to be around people. I'm on the second photo, taken by my son Eduardo, who appears on the first and third one doing his own dance of the stingrays... Amazing experience!
